Stop by the Newsstand: My Latest Piece in the Dade County Sentinel

There is something timeless about the smell of a fresh newspaper and the sound of a page turning. Even in 2026, with everything moving at the speed of light online, I still believe there is no better way to get the heartbeat of our community than through the Dade County Sentinel.

This week, I’m especially excited to open the paper because I’ve contributed a piece that has been rattling around in my brain for quite some time.

The title? "So You’re an Adult in Dade County... What Now?"

The Manual We Never Got

We’ve all had that moment—usually while standing in the middle of a grocery store aisle or staring at a pile of paperwork—where we realize that being an "adult" didn't come with a set of instructions. And being an adult in a tight-knit place like Dade County comes with its own unique set of joys and hurdles.

In this article, I dive into the reality of navigating life right here in our corner of Georgia. I talk about the shift from "just getting by" to actually building a life you’re proud of, and what it looks like to find your footing when you feel like you're just winging it.

Why You Should Grab a Copy

I’m sharing a few snippets here, but I really want to encourage you to go out and support our local paper. Local journalism is the glue that keeps us connected, and the Sentinel has been such a wonderful platform for me to share my voice.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident of Trenton or a newcomer still finding your favorite spot at the local diner, I think you’ll find a piece of yourself in this column. It’s about more than just "adulting"—it’s about community, resilience, and figuring out what comes next.

Bridging the Gap

Writing this column actually helped me clarify a lot of the themes I explore in my upcoming book, Making Waves (launching January 16!). It’s all connected—learning how to move from being a "pleaser" to being a powerful, intentional adult.

So, when you’re out and about today, stop by the newsstand. Pick up a copy of the Sentinel, grab a coffee, and let me know what you think of the article! Does the "Now What?" of adulthood feel as real to you as it does to me?

Once you've read it, come back here or find me on Facebook and let’s keep the conversation going.
